Check Ups at Leichhardt GP
As part of this approach, LGP's doctors and nurses conduct regular health checks for many patients. We can provide assessments for children as set out in their “Blue Book” at birth, 2, 4, 6, 12 & 18 months, and 2, 3 and 4 years.
We also conduct the "45 -49 year old health check" (one-off), and the annual health assessment offered to all patients over the age of 75 years.
We can also give you advice about screening for medical conditions such as breast, cervical, bowel and prostate cancer in concordance with your age, risk factors and the RACGP guidelines.

Childhood and adolescence is a time of rapid growth and change.
One of the best ways to ensure our young people grow up fit and healthy is to have regular health, growth and development checks.
LGP's doctors offer and encourage childhood vaccinations and all of our health professionals have a great deal of experience in managing common childhood ailments. We are happy to see adolescents with or without their parents.

It’s recommended that you start having regular cervical screening tests (formerly known as Pap tests) from the age of 25, even if you have been vaccinated for HPV. Don't put it off!
Leichhardt GP is a practice that cares for women of all ages.
LGP's doctors can advise about contraception, sexual health, STI screening and management, breast checks and of course, cervical screening tests.
Sexually transmitted infections can easily be tested for with just a urine sample, if you think you may be at risk, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us and make an appointment.

Men should get some of this "Health" stuff. It's catching and good for you.

It is recommended that you have a skin check at least every 2 years.
Several of LGP's doctors perform routine skin checks. but many people will require an annual check or, occasionally, even more frequently. You can discuss what is appropriate for you at the time of skin check.
At a skin check, you may be offered some minor treatments, such as cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen) for pre-cancerous skin changes. If further treatment, such as a biopsy or excision is required, that can also be arranged at the time of the skin check. Doctors at Leichhardt GP are able to perform most biopsies and various simple skin cancer excisions.
We recommend that you make a dedicated appointment for a skin check. Dr Marcela Cox and Dr Dale Wilson, have undertaken training specifically in the detection and treatment of skin cancers. Please ask reception for more details. Please be make-up free when you come in for your appointment.

We can help to treat and manage many sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, from assessment and diagnosis to investigation and management.
It is important that you seek medical attention early for acute pain in the knee or foot if you find that you are unable to stand or walk due to pain as this is highly suspicious for a more serious injury and early intervention can improve outcomes.
Leichhardt GP offers diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal conditions such as Arthritis/joint conditions, muscle ache/pain, chronic pain, nerve pain and spinal conditions (neck and back pains). We can also offer advice on how to prevent injury and refer you for specialist or allied health review if deemed necessary.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having sexual health checks to make sure that they are not at risk of unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmittable infections.
All documentation and results are and will be kept confidential in concordance with AMA and RACGP standards.
All doctors at Leichhardt GP are competent and confident in performing sexual health check-ups. This usually involves your GP asking some questions about your sexual activity, performing an examination if appropriate, blood and urine tests and occasionally genital swabs.
At Leichhardt GP, all doctors share the belief that women have a right to affordable and safe pregnancy termination. Need help? See Medical Termination
